Town - Pennabilli

Pennabilli is a village located at the core of Romagna Apennines at 630 meters above sea level at the foot of Carpegna Mount and overlooking the Marecchia Valley.

The city was born in 1350 from the merging of two pre-existing castles: “Penna”, which was the cradle of the legendary Malatesta family and “Billi” that took its name from the ancient presence of a temple dedicated to the Etruscan god of fire “Bel”.

Besides the beauty of its historical centre, Pennabilli offers the opportunity to visit a network of 5 museums where you can discover its rich history and the work of the artist, writer and screenwriter Tonino Guerra. The valley is also a fascinating natural scenario where you can hike and climb.

In 2010 it received the prestigious “Orange Flag” by the Italian Touring Club for its excellent service and welcoming atmosphere.

During the year, Pennabilli hosts many events. Besides the International Festival of Performing Arts "Artisti in Piazza", also the Festival of the Forgotten Fruits and the Fair of Antiquities attracts visitors from the whole region.

Site - Parco Begni

The chosen site for the 2017 edition of Migrant Landscapes is the Begni Park, a green area of 6 hectares facing the Marecchia valley and its hilly landscape. Thanks to its location, it became a reference point for the "Artisti in Piazza" Festival, a place for the shows but also for resting and eventually camping. Because of its proximity to the City Hall and the local schools, it is also a leisure area and an important place for the community of Pennabilli.

For this reason, Migrant Landscapes wants to explore the potential of the park as a junction between the countryside and the city, going beyond its characterization of a space for temporary uses connected to the Festival.

The aim is therefore to transform it in a playful educational area with simple and inventive interventions that can dialogue with the context and that are created in collaboration with the community and its institutions.
